Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage

With approximately fifty percent of all marriages in the U.S. ending in divorce, nearly every living person has been affected by tragedy. Divorce hurts everyone. It should be no surprise that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:1). Jesus said, “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:6). God intended for the marriage relationship to last a lifetime. In fact, Jesus taught that there are harsh consequences for those who disregard God’s laws concerning the sanctity of the marriage relationship. In short, God intended for one man to be married to one woman for a lifetime, with only one exception – the unfaithfulness of a spouse by committing sexual immorality, or adultery, with someone outside of the marriage. In Old Testament times, those who committed adultery were put to death, freeing the innocent party to remarry. However, under the law of Christ, Jesus taught that the guilty party may never remarry. And if they do, they’re guilty of compounding the sins that led to the breakup of their original marriage.

Therefore, since divorce is so rampant in our society, it’s important that we have a clear understanding of what the Lord says about marriage, divorce and remarriage. In this video Don Blackwell delves into this crucial topic that has ravaged the very fabric of our society. If you are considering divorce, or you know someone who is, please don’t go any further until you watch this video. You need to understand what God has to say on this subject, because the consequences of making the wrong choice will affect your eternal destiny.
