Managing the Influence of Media in our Homes

How do you feel about being entertained by the things that sent Jesus to the cross? Did you know that a national survey indicates the average child between the ages of 8 to 18 spends over 10 hours a day engaging in some form of media entertainment?  Are you aware that 83 percent of the programs most frequently watched by adolescents contain at least some sexual content? Did you know 70 percent of men between the ages 18 to 24 and 1 in 3 women visit porn websites in a typical month? Are you aware that the average age at which a child sees porn is eleven? It’s been said that the screen in your home is a teacher – whether it’s the TV screen or the screen on our computer, notebook, or cell phone? The question we should be asking is “What is that screen teaching?”

Jesus gave his life to free us from our bondage to sins and wickedness of every imaginable kind. So why would we deliberately choose to be entertained by those things through the various forms of modern-day media, including: television, movies, music, gaming, the Internet, and social media.

Undoubtedly one of the most powerful tools in Satan’s arsenal of weapons is the entertainment we often innocently allow into our homes. With this tool he attacks the home and slowly breaks down moral barriers. Sadly that frequently leads to marital problems between husbands and wives, and sends wrong messages to our children about right and wrong.

This 30-minute video confronts the controversial “hot button” issue about the choices we make when it comes to entertainment, and our use of social media. Since the Bible tells us that God cares about our minds and what we feed our minds, this video explores how Satan uses all forms of media to his advantage, and what we can do to protect ourselves and those we love most.
